Oh brother, this sounds like a scheme to create a welfare program for anyone claiming to be a commercial fisherman in Louisiana at the expense of the oil industry and every consumer who buys petroleum products. Why doesn’t the State of Louisiana provide unemployment benefits for its resident fishing industry? Besides, fishing is still allowed in Gulf waters to the west and south of the well site. Go fish!

my response to fish man’s comment….how would you feel if you could not provide for your family? These men have provided food for their own family as well as many others around the state. Our fishing is not for pleasure its our job. Commercial fishermen are hard working people that don’t ask for help unless they really need it. And the oil might not be west yet, but that does not mean it will not come this way and believe it or not, the seafood on the west end of the gulf has declined dramaticly. I know I speek for many fishermen that when I say, we appricate all the help we can get.
