“30 days in jail, 10 years probation and a $10,000 fine”? “License suspended until further notice”? For negligent homicide?

Holy crud Batman. I’m going to Texas next time I want to off somebody with my cellphone.

Maybe the kicker is that the costs of the funeral were high for the 24-karat coffin.

Stupidity deserves a LONGER jail time when you cause the death of someone else.

Contributory negligance we have a seat belt law in Texas. Thrown from car seems someone may not have been wearing one…

So, is there no coverage if your policy contains an exclusion for involvement in a criminal act?
But, where does the “distraction fault” end? Enjoying loud music? Not enjoying a sporting event? 2 or 3 screaming kids in the backseat?

Just Me I have to agree, thrown from car sounds like possibly no seat belt.

But I can visualize this one– stupid woman on the phone, swerves her obnoxious SUV over five lanes of traffic and over white lines and nearly missing street signs just so her own stupidity doesn’t have to result in her driving around the block once. It happens many times each day in Dallas. There are roads I won’t even drive on anymore (Yes, LBJ Freeway, I am talking about you…)

I concur with Just Me. If he was wearing a seatbelt, he might not have died. I think the punishment fits the crimer personally. I’m suprised that a jury didn’t want her to fry though. “SHE KILLED SOMEONE! SHE SHE BE IN PRISION FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE!” You got to look at the circumstances as well as the crime. Yes she did wrong, but the damage could have been limited if both parties took proper precautions.
