Why is everything a disaster these days? The word disaster has lost all meaning. At what point did we lose the perspective that weather for farmers is something that happens and must be dealt with as part of the occupation? Health care reform is a disaster waiting to happen, Katrina was a disaster, Chernobyl was a major disaster, occupational hazards are not disasters. While the farmers may need low interest rate loans to survive until the next growing season, 10 months of bad weather is not a disaster, it’s global warming. (I made that last part up, it’s really just seasonal temperatures 2 standard deviations from the norm)

farmers pretend to be rugged individualists, but they don’t hesitate to stick their hand out to the “gummint” anytime one of these annual “disasters” comes along. and they leaned it from the prior generation of farmers, who learned it from their prior, etc.
kinda like welfare recipients in the big city.
