Automatic audio recording that plays everytime the trunk closes that you can adjust based on the age of your toddlers –

DING DING DING….”WARNING… You have closed the trunk – unless you are a suitcase or spare tire – Please listen carefully to the following instructions”

Then Barney could pop up on a LCD TV screen implanted in the top of the trunk lid that shows the kids how to pull the &$@#(&#@ handle – DUH – If they didn’t know to scream their faces off for help – do you really think a 4 or 5 year old will be able to read the instructions on how to get themselves out of a locked trunk???

Lets just call ALL vehicles made from the Model-A on and have them retrofitted… Oh, by the way… who is going to pay for this little ?

This is not the auto makers fault – it is the irresponsible parents that had no idea where their kids were playing or what they were doing and didn’t care to look for them until it was too late

Right on GMAB. It’s always someone else’s fault. People are pretty stupid about looking for the root cause of problems, like how did the little urchins get into the trunk in the first place? Parents negligence in leaving it open and enabling them to climb in? Oh, that won’t fly….there’s no money in blaming them. Let’s look to the deep pocket. But seriously, somebody needs to ask the question, how did they get in there? I don’t know if a crappy Malibu has fold down rear seats but even if it did, I doubt a 4 and 5 year old could manage that. Maybe the parents left it open and forgot about it. It would be easy for the kids to pull it down. Even then, wouldn’t a parent notice the kids missing and go looking for them? The existence of a mechanism to open the trunk from the inside doesn’t guarantee little kids, panicked in the dark, would know where to look for one.

GM needs to recall all their cars (not scraped) and install these devices.

Plus all USA car companies should be made to recall all their cars (not scraped) and install these devices.

Better yet, just shut down all USA car companies because we obviously can not produce a safe car.
