A tragic event for sure and no one deserves to lose their life or the life of a loved one like this, but $3.5 mil per person? I don’t know the facts, but this sounds a bit out there.

Couldn’t agree more. The award was way out of line. Why should survivors profit from these deaths? Our legal system needs some reform. What “damages” do the surviors have? These people were in a full-time living facility and I doubt their concerned relatives, (now millionaires) came to visit more than a couple times a month. If they were so damned concerned about their relatives why didn’t they come and get them when the storm was approaching?

Maybe the award is $500,000 for the victims and the rest for the attorneys?

The victims are dead. Dread raises a good point. Why do we make millionaires of the survivors who didn’t depend on them for support and had limited interaction with them. If there was any negligence here, nobod got punished by this award. Insurance paid for it. Our legal system is flawed. There has to be a better way but nothing will change since lawyers will fight it to their death and politicians are lawyers. We screwed.
