how does osha get involved in the deal of a parking lot? ownership of the vehicle belongs to the owner and not the business, granted the vehicle is parked on a company lot. only one small problem, even though the vehicle is locked, if that gun is out in the open, someone can easily break the window and still take the gun. so where’s there actual control of the gun in a parked car?

The security thought expresd also occured to me. however with a little thought that can be overcome. First anyone who would leave a gun in plain sight in an auto needs to suffer a lot! this is inexcuseable. someone who is licensed to carry is very unlikely to do this. As to someone entering a car looking for a gun, just think – So many cars, so little time. Also, Cars are seldom entered in a company parking lot. There is security provided that precludes such activity. Also keep in mind that there are those who have had a gun in their car all along anyway. Now there will just be a few more. The act of having a gun in ones car was pretty safe all along. The company would have had to learn from a reliable source that the gun was there in the first place. Then the police would have had to become involved and a search warrent gotten before the car could be searched. If such a thing envolved me, they damn sure better find a gun in there because i would not shut up or back off until heads rolled and I got compensated for my trouble. Then I would find a friendly lawyer and file a civil rights suit. I am a free man and if you push me I will push back. So anyway this law is symbolic at best. just one step towards getting the freedoms that have already been infringed because our elected employees will not obey their oath of office to uphold and protect the Constitution. They are all corrupted.

The constitional amendments are being used as an excuse for lame arguments. These cowboys are almost comical with their infatuation with guns. I don’t recall many parts of Oklahoma being ghettos where personal protection is necessary. The constitution and many of its amendments were written in the old days when having a firearm was necessary and relevant. Today, it isn’t. Nice to know the old west is alive, well, and not progressing up the food chain.

It doesn’t have to be Ghetto to need to defend yourself. Is Virginia Tech a ghetto? What about the church in Illinois where the pastor was shot and killed earlier this year, is that ghetto. Or all of the rural towns in Alabama a couple of months ago. People who intend on doing bodily harm to others are not always from “da hood” and crime can happen anywhere at any time.

Am I misunderstanding your statement that you feel the constitution as well as our freedom are meaningless because it was written in the “old days”

Why would firearms be necessary and relevant then but not today. What has changed. From what I can tell from all of the crime in the country today, the police can not be everywhere. And I for one want the ability to defend myself in the unforseen event I am attacked. Lets think about this… Excuse me Mr. Assailant, if you could please refrain from your attack until after I have called the police, I would greatly appreciate it. Um.. Yea, someone please tell me how often that has worked.

Using a weapon in any circumstance is dangerous. Guns have a single purpose: to kill something or someone. I shudder at the thought of people carrying loaded weapons in the vehicles “just in case they need it”. Wouldn’t that escalate things like road rage or personal argument? As for attacks like Virginia Tech, the solution isn’t to arm teachers and students; it’s providing a professional armed guard to eliminate shooters.

Trusting firearms and the discretion to use them to an ordinary citizen is dangerous and irresponsible. And yes, I think some of the constitutional amendments need to be “modernized” since society has changed dramatically in tha past 200+ years since it was written. The comparatively few cases of residential break-ins doesn’t warrant arming the population. It’s unlikely we’ll have to protect ourselves against an invasion and ground attack by our enemies either.

As far as the danger aspect of armed citizens is concerned, Law abiding gun owners licenced to carry in the states have been screened to ensure there is no history of violent offences or mental illness and are required to attend at least 8 1/2 hours of training prior to becoming licenced. Not to mention the cost of the class and application. People who are willing to go through these steps are not the people committing crimes.

In 2008 concealed carry permits went up over 10% and violent crimes went down almost 13%. Whether one is tied to the other is anyones guess but it would appear that an armed society is a safer society.

…guns are also ‘collected’ and used to shoot targets (skeet/trap/gun ranges) competively. But true, they all have the capability to cause harm.

I don’t know where you live, but it is safe to say you pass people with weapons in their cars every day. As far as Oklahoma is concerned, when was the last time we heard about a road rage incident, let alone one that resulted in gun play?? I can’t remember…doubt you do either.

As far as ‘modernizing’ the Constitution…if we would go back to what the Founding Fathers intended (not just in the 2nd Amendment) we would all be better off. They did not trust a central government to provide for all their needs and neither should we.
