If exposure resulted in the cancer, why didn’t these men develop lung cancer? Colon cancer is fairly common for middle-aged men. Sounds like a great big leap to say it is due to their profession.
I can see lung cancer and heart problems. But unless the City Counsel is blowing smoke up their skirts, how in the world is colon cancer a viable covered disease???
I forwarded this to my spouse, who is an attorney for a municipality in our state. Was advised that they haven’t seen something like this…yet However, also indicated that fire-fighters have strong lobbyists working for them, and that is one reason for this insane development.
My father died of colon cancer so I know a lot about it. There is no objective evidence to remotely suggest it’s related to smoke or fire fighting. It’s usually genetic. Also, you don’t get diagnosed with stage 4 (final/terminal) colong cancer unless you’ve knowingly ignored stages 1,2 & 3. In this day and age colon cancer is detecable and treatable IF CAUGHT EARLY. These two clowns would have had to ignore intestinal pain, abnormal bowel movements, blood in the stool, and rectal bleeding for several months/years to arrive at stage 4.
Cancer is a presumption for firefighters in California and is not limited to specific types of cancer. It’s interesting to note that both firefighters with the stage 4 colon cancer are from Edmond. One is age 45 with 19 years experience, but the other is only 28 with likely 1/2 as long on the job so certainly less exposure.
Hopefully, Oklahoma will place more of a responsibility on the physicians to link the type of cancer vs the known carcinogens and their causal connection to the diagnosed condition. If not, this will establish the precedence for any and all cancer to be presumptive.

I guess being against firefighters benefits is like coming out against America, Mom and apple pie.
