Rate of Workplace Injuries, Illnesses Down in Louisiana

A federal report shows the rate of work-related injuries and illnesses in Louisiana declined slightly between 2006 and 2007.

The Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses found private industry in the state had an injury and illness rate of 2.9 per 100 full-time equivalent workers last year. That compared to a rate of 3 per 100 full-time equivalent workers in 2006.

The national rate also was down slightly from ’06.

Private industry jobs with the most injuries and illnesses resulting in time off work in the state included drivers of tractor trailer trucks, nursing aides, orderlies and movers.
