Arctic Blast Hits Oklahoma, Texas Resulting in Deaths, Accidents

Freezing drizzle began falling in southern and central Oklahoma on Dec. 16 after an Arctic cold front blasted into the state, icing roads in the northeast, forcing school closures and leading to traffic accidents that injured at least a dozen people and killed two. Authorities said a third person died from exposure to the cold after a traffic accident.

North Texas got caught in the freezing blast as well. Dallas police say they received at least 173 calls to 911 reporting accidents during rush hour, prompted by below freezing temperatures and freezing rain.

Several minor traffic accidents were reported Tuesday in central Oklahoma after the freezing drizzle coated already frozen roadways.
