Half of our TWIA customers who have had their claims paid and “closed” and requested a supplimental claim due to wrong adjustments and underpaid damages.

They may say these claims are closed, but they’re really not closed just yet.

And that call center they’re talking so highly about is useless. You call in to find out a status of a claim and all they can tell you is “oh, that claim is open.” NO CRAP!

Yes the adjuster came out quickly and we got a check fairly quickly, but when we got a second opinion, the amount of damage was well over $100,000 more than the adjuster said. TWIA told her to get a second opinion, which she did, and they agreed with the damage done AND the cost to repair the damage. So why hasn’t TWIA responded after 5 months??? I have been told they have a certain time period in which to respond and if they don’t there is a penalty. Has anyone else heard this?

I just drove through Galveston on the Dec 13th, today, and there are few houses being worked on. And even fewer that have been repaired. Sounds to me like the bureaucracy is trying to keep itself alive. I’ll just take the money I paid in over the last 15 years if its ok with the hard working folks in Austin. Can’t we get rid of the TWIA and their fellow bureaucrats at TDI and turn it over to private companies?

I met my 2nd WS adjuster today in Galveston, he drove up in a motor home and was wearing a Rolex, he was willing to provide a few thousand dollars for a small part of my missing siding – told me that I needed to hire a contractor and engineer if I wanted more. I just want to repair what is broken. I’ve already spent the few thousand just getting my power restored. I have witnessed how a claim is closed by TWIA. The aduster shows up, lies about what will be covered, the next thing you get is a check in the mail, whether you agreed to it or not. It’s closed. I think Mr. Oliver needs to find a new job, not in Ausin please, or Texas.

Wow… I agree with all the posting except the one from Texas Windstorm. The adjustor came out about 2 weeks after Ike and said he will turn the paperwork in within a week. It took him 3 weeks. Now I can’t even get a loss statement, much less any money from them. Seems no one wants to give me any information and I haven’t seen a cent and have no idea when or if that will happen. If I was late making my payment by one day, they would send me a cancelation notice. I have roof, sheetrock, carpet, and fence damage and this is now 3 months of nothing but the run around. I have spent about 10k so far just to get tarps and some work on the inside of the house taken care of but I still am living on bare concrete (which is better than some at least). I am giving TWSI until Tuesday, Dec 16th. and then a lawyer will be the next person to contact with them on my behalf. All of my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that is in this situation and I sincerely hope we all get this resolved soon.

There are way too many of us along the Southest Texas Gulf Coast still waiting (and praying) for a fair settlement from Ike damage or complete destruction for this to be true. The “slabbers,” those with everything gone are still waiting for a ruling by a study group and weather professionals that was supposed to be completed by the end of the year. We’ve just been told that it is now to be completed at the end of January.

When you’re waiting to see where you are going to live (or if you are going to have home to live in) four months is a long, long time! And, we are not going quietly, I can promise the officials.

Unless TWIA calls a claim, “closed,” when they’ve looked at it and determined what they are or are not going to do, these are not nearly closed. They won’t be either until we get full settlement checks in our hands!

What’s not mentioned is Flood insurance doesn’t seem to be having near the problem that TWIA has in determining what caused what. Time for TWIA to “Man-up” and provide the service that their clients paid for. What other choices did the insured have against winds in TEXAS. What a boondoggle! TWIA should be ashamed of themselves AND investigated by TDI and the Federal Government.

I have to throw down the BS flag on that statement.

I know of no one that has gotten anything close to full amount, TWS has paid a few folks a token amount, but nowhere near 65%.

I don’t know how you people sleep at night, I really don’t.

Oh, one more thing ref: customers wishing to deal with someone other that the adjuster.

    NEWS FLASH !!!!!!!!

The adjuster DOES NOT HAVE RESOLUTION AUTHORITY. In laymen’s terms here is the scoop, dealing with someone who hasn’t the authorization means the insurance co. is BARGAINING IN BAD FAITH.

    Period. Paragraph.

The 63% of claims that have been closed must be the less severe type. A simple claim 4 months after Ike can easily be closed with a simple adjustment. Once the hurricane hit no one knows or knew which policy would cover what claim. For instance, having a homeowners, windstorm and a flood make it difficult to have a settlement on any damage. If your fence is down and your house in Galveston was damaged, if you had a fence it probably was damaged, also. However, the fence would not be covered in the flood damage but in the TWIA policy. Don’t ask why? Because the TWIA and flood agreements include the fence due to wind. Clearly, the claim could easily be made for the fence under the flood policy. The water came into Galveston and the ground became wet and the movement of the fence happened and left most of the fence lines on the ground after the water receeded. This is only once instance of a claim that needs to be clearly defined. Also, this is a claim that can be cleared up rather quickly with no payout to the customer. The 63% of claims that have been closed can be a false and misleading number to those with an outstanding claim.

These are only some of the instances that I’m hearing from my website. Please feel free to send my your information on how your working your claim. Plus, keep up to the latest on the TWIA litigation that is going on in January in Austin, TX.
