I am confused. I buy insurance. I have an insured loss. The insurance company pays my living expenses until a settlement and or reconstruction is reached. End of story. Why does FEMA provide housing unless 1. there is no other housing available and I use my insurance money to rent the trailer or 2. I wasn’t paying rent anywhay and want to continue my low cost lifestyle. Please fill in the blanks here. I am all ears. For option # 2 I suggest a transportation voucher to another community.
I suspect these people did not have any insurance or had only flood insurance. Flood insurance does not include ALE like most homeowner policies do. That would make them eligible for FEMA assistance. There is probably a typical FEMA Knot preventing the trailers from being moved.
The difficulty here is that those folks have relatively limited wind damage and dramatic flood damage. NFIP does not pay for additional living expense but does require a house damaged in excess of 50 % to be elevated. Many of the homes in Galveston are older and are not flood compliant today. No Ones fault just a tough situation.
Where will those people get into the trailer. The vouchers expire at the end of the month. What city in Texas are they going to house all those trailers. I know people who are approved but do not have any place to go or do not know where they are going. Fema doesnt return calls or provide information. Thanks
