Nobody should be going out of their way to rescue the morons who made the decision to disregard evacuation orders. They were given the opportunity to take advantage of transportation and shelter. They chose not to. Now we have to spend more taxpayer dollars and risk the lives of rescuers to help these idiots? People who live in hurrican prone areas need to be able to sustain themselves and not just sit and whine about who will take care of them. It may be hard lesson, but won’t that will never be learned until these mental midgets pay the price for their stupidity.

I agree. It’s part of the natural selection process. They elected to roll the dice. Let them lose.

Some areas were told to “hunker down and ride out the storm” by local and state officals.
One County offical said he did not have enough money in the county accounts to order evacuation, so he made it voluntary.
these officals now owe their citizens a duty to help.

R: that makes no sense. What’s the cost differential between issuing a voluntary evacuation order vs. a mandatory evacuation order? People who choose to live in hurricane prone areas need have sufficient resources to take care of themselves. Most people who have been through hurricanes before fully understand the consequences of staying. A voluntary order doesn’t suggest it’s safe to stay. Once again, people who choose to take the risk and lose need to pay the consequences.
