I saw this on the news and worried that this bus charter company would not have coverage. How sad for the victims and families involved. I hope that can get some restitution.

A subsequent news report explained that the right front tire on the bus had been improperly or illegally retreaded, and that is what caused the accident. The tire either blew out or the tread shredded and caused the bus to swerve and flip onto its side. As far as the ex-wife’s comment, I’d be willing to bet that it was she who made sure everything was up to state-required standards!

    Much come to mind here:
1: what a tragedy for the families of those injured or killed
    2: Criminal charges are warranted
3: The state might now pay for the cost of medical care unless the injured had major med coverage without exclusions for auto injuries if they had any other coverage at all – maybe their own personal auto will step up under UM/UIM covg?
4: Bet this bus company submitted the lowest bid for the trip

Along with the obvious negligence of the bus company, I hope that the Church who hired the bus company gets what’s coming to them. When assuming responsibility for the transportation of its members, they should have asked for evidence of insurance from the bus company. Another fine example of the Catholic Church and its arrogant attitude towards its own members.

Nothing can diminish the heartfelt sorrow that goes out to the victems of this tragedy, but to think he operated a school bus company to boot is beyond comprehension.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve found buses to be extremely dangerous on the road, top heavy, traveling too fast (regardless of wheather conditions or not) cutting across traffic, for the most part, the drivers look to be in their “advanced years” and they don’t care who is around them, they’ll run you off the road before they yield to a passenger vehicle.

Combine those factors with lack of maintenance and shady business practices, you’re looking at an accident waiting to happen.

Cannot say it enough…So sad… but preventable.

My @$$. If there was a way to violate the law, this guy found it. From operating illegally, using unqualified drivers, unsafe equipment and to top it all off, doing it all uninsured. Criminal charges are indeed warranted. They need to arrest the idiot before he disappears.

We all have seen the results of uninsured accidents. This is more than that. It is criminal and as such the operator of the company is due his day in court.

The only truely sad thing is that many of the victims aren’t alive to be there to see justice done.

CTC you are right on the money.

    Bus manufacturer,tire manufacture, Church,
drivers homeowners insurance, garage that serviced bus, state, county, city who “negligently designed/mainained the “dangerous” roadway.

There’s no doubt that with 17 fatalities, plaintiffs lawyers will be lining up with there double barrel shotguns!

Who, in the Church, was so stupid as to hire this bus company? All to save $50, I’ll bet.
