Effort Launched to Replace Oklahoma Church

Fundraising went under way to build a new community center to replace a 102-year-old church that was destroyed in a fire.

The building in McClain County about 30 miles south of Oklahoma City was the former church of Jerusalem, a black settlement that drifted away over time. It stood next to the town’s cemetery.

About $4,000 has been raised toward building the new structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Arson has not been ruled out.
