Arkansas Student Gets 10 Years for Burning Car

A teenager has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to helping set a teacher’s Volkswagen Beetle on fire.

A judge sentenced 18-year-old Shawn Perkins to the prison term after Perkins pleaded guilty Friday to being an accomplice to arson. Perkins, then a senior at Lincoln High School, was apparently upset with teacher Michelle Morris because he was suspended after Morris sent him to the principal’s office.

Perkins was expelled after the fire. He was also ordered to pay $5,000 to Morris, whose car was destroyed in the blaze.
