Its a sad day when someone in jail takes there own life and their family has to stoop so low as to sue a town or city because their low-life family member was so stupid. God help us. Can anyone say TAX INCREASE.

I agree with you Budda. How could the jury not find Garza 100% liable for his OWN suicide. There are some real stupid people in this world. I hope the City, State and.or Jail sue this dumb broad for their costs.

I don’t get it. How is anybody else responsible for someone else’s suicide? And how do they come up with a percentage if this guy was the one who 100% decided to kill himself? And this guy hung himself over being arrested for public intoxication? You’ve got to be kidding! There’s a huge piece of this puzzle missing. Other than the fact that somebody died…it’s almost laughable. Why not make it 59.8% responsible. haha.

Good point ACE, we as American’s don’t want to make other people mad. The US has to be so PC now that we have forgotten how to think smart! He was in jail he should have NO RIGHTS. This should not be an issue. WAKE UP PEOPLE we need to stop this nonsense and use our heads!!!! The average American has no rights anymore.

Yeah, there is something missing. No where in the article does it say the inmate committed suicide. It says he was ‘found hanged’. On the day he was to be released. Ok so the guy broke the law got put in the drunk tank. He didn’t deserve to die over it – he basically got the death sentance. Doesn’t sound to me like he TOOK his OWN life. If he committed suicide over such a minor thing he was probably mentally ill. He very well may have been murdered by another inmate.

The point is, why make a potential weapon available to other inmates who can use it to kill someone? Or where a mentally ill person can use it to harm himself when he is supposed to be in the custody of the state?

Don’t know that I disagree with the outcome of the lawsuit but the people at the jail who didn’t think of this scenario are the real idiots.

This is a drunk tank, not a medium/high security state prison. I do not know all the facts of this case, but I am willing to bet that his death was self inflicted. I respect the opinions of LW but do not agree. Unless there were obvious signs of mental instability, the contractor/city/county should have no liability in this matter.
