Mandatory insurance is a good tool for keeping these facilities in compliance with regulations. The facility will get free loss control to help reduce hazards all over the place. If they are made to have the coverage, they will be made to stay in compliance, and therefore be rewarded with reduced premiums. Sounds like a win-win to me.

Bull feathers. The only party that benefits from forcing insurance on these marginally surviving nursing homes is the plaintiff attorneys who have been pushing this legislation. The plaintiff bar has pretty well wiped out the nursing home industry in OKlahoma, and the few hanging on run without insurance in many cases. But gee, there’s no incentive for the vultures to sue them unless there’s insurance…so let’s fix that problem with mandatory insurance. Another goose that laid the golden egg about to be cooked…
And oh, Michelle, any insurance company that is crazy enough to write quarter million dollar policies on nursing homes is going to be a specialty company that won’t even have a loss control department. Get serious. It’s all about the TV Guide lawyers and their influence on the Oklahoma Governor and State Senate.

I hope that Rep. Doug Cox has the opportunity to live in his living center or one like it in his “golden” years.
