Storm Damages Oklahoma Marina

A small but powerful storm has caused major damage to a marina at Lake Texoma in Oklahoma.

Strong winds during the storm uprooted oak trees — some that stood 40 feet tall and were six feet around — and destroyed four of the 30 boathouses at Soldier Creek Resort and Marina, office manager Rita Kilpatrick said.

No other marinas or resorts on the lake were affected by the storm. The National Weather Service said the storm was a “heat burst,” which occurs as a storm decays and collapses.

Kilpatrick said the walkway to the marina’s floating restaurant had been broken off and that the restaurant itself had been turned around.

Each of the marina’s boathouses can hold up to 10 boats and Kilpatrick said some boat owners still were trying to get to their boats.
