I think the .90 cents it costs to make a fire safe cig carton is worth it. And hell Mo {Marlboro} owns the rights to the paper. UUUmmm wonder who pushed that law ????

Its not widely known, but the so-called energy bill that Bush signed last month contains a ban on the good old incandescant lightbulb, to become effective in 2012. Those of you who don’t smoke and think that intrusive government only affects other people, think again. Today its cigarettes, tomorrow it lightbulbs. How long before the goverment will just come to my house and wipe my *** for me?

The answer to careless smoking is not to idiot-proof cigarettes. We’re already trying to do that with automobiles. Where does it stop? Does it stop?

If people are too stupid, lazy, or indifferent that they won’t install a smoke alarm, that’s too bad for them. Even un-educated, indigent people should have enough common sense to know they should have a smoke alarm to save their lives. Most fire departments give them away for free so there really is no excuse not to have one.

Jim: a reduction in severity may be an ancillary benefit of idiot-proofing cigarettes. I think you missed Dread’s point. We can’t design our products and processes to protect against the deviant 1% of morons in our world.

Yes we can Eli. We can do anything. It will just cost so much that we will be come totally uncompetitive in the world market. Oops, we’ve already done that on autos and electronics. Too late.

These cigarettes are dangerous. They start to burn simultaneously about a half to a quarter of an inch inside the tip–so you have the end burning, and another section starts burning. Next thing you know, you have a lit head on the smoke that is close to a half inch long. The head falls off. Lit ashes drop.

On top of that, the cigarettes are harsh and hard on the lungs.

It would have been nice to know about this change before they change the mix on a carton of cigarettes that sell for $35. Before I knew about the “fire safe” change, I noticed the smokes were different and e-mailed Phillip Morris to inquire. The best they could do was to refer to their website, where I didn’t see anything to answer my question.

We have been sold out by the tobacco companies. And from my experience, these cigarettes seem to be more dangerous than the regular ones.

    LEAVE US ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, puleeeeze. All this will do is 1) make cigarettes physically harder to smoke, and 2) make them more expensive. It’s not about making them safer, it’s about making it more difficult for smokers to smoke.
I wish these petty little tyrants would get real lives of their own, so they don’t have to justify their existence by trying to run everyone else’s.
They either need to grow the additional anatomy necessary to fully outlaw tobacco once and for all – or knock off this assinine inch-at-a-time knit-picking, sit down and SHUT UP.
I, for one, am an adult, and am sick of these professional “mommies” trying to dictate every aspect of my life.
