This, my friends, is why New Orleans is not rebuilding.

Who else could understand an inch being equal to a mile?

    Happy Turkey Day!

On a more serious note: why are we wasting all this money and effort to rebuild a city overrun with crime and poverty just to watch it be levelled again the next time a Cat4/5 storm barrels through? We already paid billions to temporarily relocate people; billions more to rebuild levees, pumps, etc; billions more in low-interest loans to encourage rebuilding.

This is more a waste of money than Iraq but Pilosi’s Democrats don’t want to debate what’s actually important and prefer to keep the Sheehan lobby happy by playing games with money for our soldiers.

Stop sending money to New Orleans, if you want to live there, fine. You do it on your own accord without our money. We’d have been better off sending all the money being used to rebuild to permanently relocate the evacuees.

Wasting money is Irag, Anon. We should keep the money here and that’s all there is to it. Everyone’s tax dollars including residents of New Orleans are being used and not just yours. There’s crime there and there have been spikes in crime where the evacuees have relocated, I’ll give you that. My beef is with people that don’t look at the fact that certain regions of the UD build and rebuild every year i.e. Tornado Alley. We should go ahead and relocated the Midwest half of the US before billions are spent rebuilding them to when there is a 500 or more tornado season over the course of a summer. It’s not totally unlikely, mind you.

New Orleans has a very important port, cruise industry and military facilities, etc that contribute to this nation. You may go there and show your boobs and drink and then leave but apparently some people are disrespectful and take umbrage that the very people that wait on them hand and foot are not worthy of assistance or compassion. I have heard of Katrina fatigue but your statements I have a eef with. Irag is costing a trillion and half so far for people that hated our country’s existence from the being and will continue to do so when we leave. Our dollar is garage compared to the euro, our imminence as the world power is rapidly deteriorating and you’re concerned about 200,000 or less really Black people getting a hand up or hand out however you look at it. PLEASE! If people are criminals and commit criminal activity then feel free to go out and personally lock them up. If they are poor then feel free to look down on them as you apparently do. As the scriptures say, “the poor you will have with you always”. Crime is a problem everywhere and not just NOLA. I have been there all my life till Katrina. I have a home there and where I’m at now. It’s in my blood and though I may not like everything about New Orleans from the mayor on down I do my part as a tax-paying, law-abiding citizen to help the Broadmoor area.

Tell the people of Tornado Alley to stop rebuilding and evacuate the whole state of California. We all know it will join Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean within the next 100 years so might as well get plans together now. New York is headed for another Long Island Express – might as well get that together, too. You just have a problem with the color of New Orleans and people there regardless of race have welcomed others there despite your contempt for their plight.

If YOUR government has secured the city and the wetlands surrounding the couthern half of Louisiana decades ago then billions upon billions would not have to shelled out now. That’s not the residents fault but your government at its most inept. Hurricane Betsy was a wake-up call but no one bothered to answer and if they did then they did a piss-poor job of shoring up the levees. Earthern levees my a**. That’s crazy!

It’s a widely held fact that natural catastrophes will get worse and worse with the climate change so what does the Democratic-run government has to do it? Republican or Democrat – we need borders secured, the coast secured and general focus on what’s best for the US and stop being the world police.

My hat off to you. Too many people comment without knowing all the facts.

I am sick of the conservatives sending money to Iraq, but blaming the Dems on being liberal, now go figure!

“You just have a problem with the color of New Orleans…”

You don’t know me and to make such a derrogatory statement shows you are the close-minded individual.

I would also be against federal dollars being used to rebuild in (primarily white) fire destroyed areas in California, earthquake damage in California, tornado damage in the whitest trailer park in Oklahoma, or any other place you choose to pick. Its not about color, its personal responsibility.

My house is important to me so I have it insured. I’ve assessed the perils faced by my residence and have made a personal decision to not cary flood insurance. If my house floods I’m not going to complain that President Bush owes me and needs to send the Corps of Engineers to rebuild my house, give me living expenses, and build a levee around my house so it doesn’t happen again.

Anon – when people do not have a good argument/case they always throw in the race/age/sex/religion card. Best to just ignore the ignorant post and poster.

Mary & Anon, we don’t want the Corp to rebuild anyones house, we just want them to build the levees right, as they were “paid” to do with “OUR” tax dollars.
