Let me see: If the claimants had hired these scumbags to represent them in their settlements, there would be no guarantee that the mere retention of counsel would enhance the amount of the settlement, but hiring counsel would absolutely guarantee that any settlement would be diluted by one third (40% if a lawsuit is filed) plus the costs of experts, medical reviews and testimony, court costs, and other expenses associated with the claims.
I would never interfere with someone’s right to hire one of these maggots but in an effort to dissuade people from wasting valuable funds on attorneys and expenses I’ve often used the very same arguments that Union Pacific used, and the term “pressured” is a loaded term in this circumstance…it is my opinion that people make their own decisions and unless there was some duress applied or there was a misrepresentation by the Railroad, these people were likely not harmed in the slightest, and may have greatly benefited from not haveing counsel.
This is simply another example of the plaintiffs’ bar attempting to elbow their way into society by making it mandatory that everyone consult their lawyer before getting off the commode.

While in full agreement with you that lawyers shouldn’t even be scraped off the bottom of your shoes unless you have a carpet to protect, you’ve obviously never dealt with the Uncle Pathetic, have you? Railroading families will tell you that the UP never misses a chance to bully, harrass, shortchange or intimidate, be it employees or aggrieved survivors. IN the emergency room, for heaven’s sake??? They have LESS than no couth. Let them get screwed for a change, just to even the karmic balance in the world.
