Texas Business Owner Sentenced for Workers’ Comp Fraud

Texas Mutual Insurance Company reported that a Travis County court sentenced a Bryan, Texas, business owner on workers’ compensation fraud-related charges.

James N. Vavra was sentenced to two years’ deferred adjudication. He was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service and repay $3,920 in benefits to Texas Mutual.

According to Texas Mutual, Vavra is co-owner of Clear View II Inc., a Bryan-based installer of windows and doors. He reported a job-related injury, claimed he was unable to work as a result of the injury and began collecting income benefits from Texas Mutual.

Meanwhile, the workers’ comp insurer uncovered evidence that Vavra had returned to work with Clear View II Inc. while continuing to collect benefits. Texas law requires claimants to contact their workers’ comp carrier when they return to work.
