In two thousand and bloody seven one would think we had this whole not-enough-water problem licked. Don’t they have codes and such demanding certain fire protection standards be met before expanding? This town confuses me.

First of all, Livingston PARISH is not a town, it’s a “county”. In Louisiana the counties are called parishes. Secondly, please do not try to make sense of anything done in Louisiana. I lived in the Baton Rouge area for 6 years (4 of those in Livingston Parish) and there is no logical rhyme or reason as to anything done there. Their motto is “act now, think later (if at all)”! This may help you to understand why I no longer reside there…

They are trying. Fortunately or unfortunately, Livingston Parish is 95% rural and “post-Katrina” the population has almost doubled. The GOOD news is 3 months after Katrina in a legs. special session a new “state wide” bldg code was passed that is as tough as Florida’s! Six months ago in the reg. legs. session $3.5M was set aside for training/cert of inspector’s. As long as MS is next door, we look good! LA Girl can come home now.

I appreciate the former LA girl’s comments and congratulate her on leaving. When I was assigned to Ft. Polk, LA I learned firsthand exactly how backward most areas of the state are. Local people are decent folk who don’t have much selection when it comes to candidates for political office.
N’aleans was a party town during Mardi Gras but otherwise went un-noticed. Next to my current state, NJ, LA is probably then next most corrupt place in the country. When Ray Nagin is the best you can elect something is wrong. It’s unfortunate that the community leaders haven’t progressed high enough up the food chain to realize it takes some prior planning and common sense to develop an area. Water is pretty basic.

Don’t judge the state by Fort Polk, an isolated Army Post (Where I’ve spent time ,too) in a rural northern Parish. Do you think Alcatraz Prison is a true representation of the San Francisco area? I think not.
However, the tail does wag the dog in many areas, N.O. being one.
Ignorance is king, poverty brought on by a large population of non-contributors with lack of incentive drives Louisiana.
