Having been rear-ended on 3 separate occasions over an 18 month period by “people” talking on cell phones, I think the jail time should be even longer. Violaters should also have to attend the trials of defendants charged with more serious vehicular offenses related to cell phone use, peferably those where serious injuries or death are the result.

Sound bitter? That’s because I’m tired of replacing rear bumpers!

Why not ban the use of cell phones while driving all together. If that many accidents can be attributed to cell phone use it makes no sense to just target two classes of drivers.

New York permits hands free devices (but that only increases the convenience of talking on the phone while driving). One of the biggest classes of cell phone abusers in New York appears to be policeman, but they will probably argue that it is official communication (if so, why do they even install or issue police radios to them?)
