Sorry, you can’t have more than a good portion of luck. I’ve worked in food for over 7 years. We’ve never had a recall, but no matter what you do there are always people making the food and people can make mistakes. Hopefully you catch it before the food makes it to the public, but if not you have a recall. There will always be luck involved.

It seems not all our food problems are coming from China. Coming from a food manufacturer, there is a large portion of luck that goes into every batch – no matter how good your food safety program is. I’m willing to give them a pass as long as the FDA clears them on their sampling and sanitation programs.

Luck? I need a little more assurance than “a large portion is luck” when I go to the store and buy food that is supposed to be safe. People have been getting seriously sick from unsafe food and something needs to be changed. A close family member of mine was in the hospital for 6 weeks on dialysis, still takes daily medication, and will need a kidney transplant from her sister in a few years because of unsafe food. She’s only 2 years old and will live with this the rest of her life.
