We were present at the Midland/Odessa area presentation of \”Party 101\”, and were more than pleased with the program. My hope is that the whole thing will not \”fizzel\” and go-away.

Stop DWI, Inc. has been working for years on this problem, and yes, while many agree we have a problem, we have found little effort to help combat the problem. The Texas Legislature does not seem to care, and I can see right off that their concerns are a result of the vast amounts of money the beer and alcoholic beverage industry contributes to their pocket-book each year.

I thank KMID-TV (ABC), here in Midland, for making this presentation possible, although not many turned out for the program. This makes me very sad.

    Cordially,
    Charles Hodges, Administrator

My wife Shirley and I are not only board members of Stop DWI, we are the victims of an underaged Drunk Driver killing our precious Angela in Greenwood, Texas on 01-30-2004. We do the Victim Impact Panel program and also Shattered Dreams programs. Tragically the age of offencers keep getting younger. We have actually had some doing our VIP as part of their sentences that were as young as 14. I personally attended the \”Party 101\” program in Midland, Texas. We had some great people/speakers, and KMID TV2 did an excellent job of getting the word out.
However, still worrisome to me is the question of \”WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?\” Innocent victims are perishing at the hands of Drunk Drivers, and along with that tragedy is our young people who are the hope or our country tomorrow are killing themselves and innocent people also. Now more than ever America needs a wake up call to this national disaster, and it all starts in the HOME. From a young childs beginnings are the ground roots of intergity, truthfullness, self worth, purpose, and above all else sobriety taught and learned..IN THE HOME. As your program pointed out so very graphically, the number one place for teens or young people in general to get the booze to commit the crime is IN THE HOME. Every family member will be touched by the DWI fatality..not only the families of the lost loved ones, but the families of the ones who MAKE THE CHOICE to drink, drive, and kill the innocent ones on the highways that are becoming the slaughterways of this great nation in which we live…Bob & Shirley Lester

I feel the frustration of your Stop DWI group as I see this scenario play out daily in our country. The hard fact is that until the parents get fed up and decide to take action, the results will remain the same. Don\’t look to your government agencies to raise your kids. The best, the only truly proven prevention program for our children is an empowered parent who cares. Where are the professionals, coalitions, counselors and speakers on a Friday or Saturday night when the kids are drinking? Who\’s in charge? The mom or dad. There\’s youranswer. If you want to make a real difference in your community I recommend you take a look at the Parent-To-Parent training program at http://www.thepassagegroup.com. This program puts the power back in the parents hands and is a real eye opener. But it takes a few dedicated people in the community to make it work. It seems as if you have a few of those already. Bob and Shirley, I\’m sorry for your loss. If you really want to make a difference get to the parents.
