For all you flame posters on here that are convinced that the Feds and Bush screwed Louisiana….

You want to tell me now how horrible they\’ve been? Tell me again how the residents of New Orleans are blameless victims.

Are you going to claim now that the government ignored the \”poor, abused\” residents?

Guess what- they gave out money with no questions asked and some of those \”sad refugees\” you\’ve been championing were actually con men.

Wait… let me guess… it\’s still the governments fault for not taking weeks to make sure that aid was only distributed to the right people.

Some of you want the impossible. You demand immediate aid, but I\’m guessing you also want it to be error free.

At what point do some of you admit that Louisiana and its residents deserve some of the blame for Katrina\’s aftermath?

Will you ever get over your knee-jerk condemnation of the president and the government and admit that maybe other people contributed to the tragedy?

Will you ever admit that maybe insurance companies have legitimate reasons for denying claims?

Probably not. God forbid we ever hold a \”citizen\” accountable for their own actions.

Agreed. And do you think any of the scumbags that stole from their neighbors will be banned from any government aid in the future? Not likely. But they should be. Any person found to fraud the gov\’t and tax payers should forever be banned from ANY and ALL gov\’t assistance programs for as long as they breathe.

No problem. President Edwards or the next Dem elected Pres will have everything ironed out in no time and our Universal Healthcare will be a finely tuned, smooth running machine.

This is one of those situations where you are damned if you do and damned if you don\’t. I, however, did not expect anymore from those that stole money from the government. These people believe insurance companies and any other business trying to make a profit are bottomless pits of money. Why would the government be any different? After all do you really think those that stole contibute?

I sure hope that whoever is elected in 2008 will keep an open mind with regard to all the facets of their position. God I hope & pray that it\’s not a Democrat with big plans to give & give & expect nothing in return!
The American dream is to have it all because you worked for it, not because you can have it all handed to you! Those that stand around with their hands out need to know that the working class cannot afford to continue supporting the moochers of the world that come here looking for a hand out!
I am all for giving anyone a hand up, but the handouts need to STOP!
As for the Con\’s who applied for & received funding based on fraudulent info, I think they should be required to work for the Government FREE for the next 10 years, at least 20 hours per week, building Homes for the unfortunate. Looks like we could have some laborers for the Habitat for Humanity! Those that are unable to work should have to pay it all back with 20% interest! That\’s a fair price I think…. I bet that welfare check doesn\’t go near as far as it would have had they been honest!

Good luck trying to get the $$ back from the person that used a cemetery address! I guess they can collect from the permanent residents!

Maybe my first post was misleading, especially the part about being able to spell.

I\’m not on the side of the Bush \”haters\”, and my opinion on this topic closely resembles yours. Those who stole from the tax payers should be punished.

The responsibility for preparedness and first response lies with the local and state governments. The national government and FEMA are there in a supporting role. I don\’t think that the feds dropped the ball, although FEMA\’s preparedness could have been better. It\’s not like Katrina snuck up on anyone. Some of the federal delay (after landfall) was caused by decisions made by the local and state authorities. I believe the first rescue helicopters on scene were from the Coast Guard… they are federal.

No one in politics or in the media wanted to lay blame on the non-leadership of New Orleans or the state of Louisiana because Mayor Ray Nagin is black and Gov. Blanco is a Democrat. The problem is that most will not stand up to the left, especially the Republicans, for fear of being labeled a racist, bigoted, right wing, nut job.

I\’m sick of all the wining. \”The Feds didn\’t help me quick enough; the insurance industry is greedy; no one told me about flood insurance\”.

If you can\’t help yourself, don\’t expect help from others.

The day after Katrina struck there was an interview of a man in Biloxi. His house had been completely flooded, and he had to cut his way out of the roof with an axe. He told the journalist that after the water receded, he was sitting on his porch with his dog (maybe his cat also) and a squirrel came up and sat on the porch with them. He thought that was fitting. After the storm everyone comes together to survive. He was asked what would he do now, and he said what else is there to do but rebuild and carry on.

Meanwhile to the west New Orleans falls into a state of anarchy. The Washington Parish president is on the radio screaming that FEMA has not been there yet. Nagin is doing the same thing, screaming about nothing getting done for all the meetings and press briefings. It just made me sick. Those who were most at fault were pointing the finger at President Bush; mostly because they are against him in all that he does.

By the way, Louisiana is my home state; born and raised!

As we sit in our dry, warm offices blogging, how about making your opinions and remedies known so that a future catastrophe can be either averted or handled much more efficiently to avoid such a mess. What can you do?
