    Flooding in New Orleans was a man made disaster and the man is named the US Army Corps of Engineers under the authority of our US Congress. Please read any of the post-Katrina reports on the levee failures as evidence of my above claim. It wasn\’t an issue of maintenance.

    Families had losses. Who should pay for those losses? Not my homeowners insurance. Not me. Who? How does that work in America when a citizen suffers losses due to the engineering negligence of some other man? What is the remedy?

    My family moved here in 1765 and we are not going anywhere. We are willing to live on a houseboat if needed. We intend to rebuild a stronger but smaller home with our living area above the flood line that resulted when the levees fell down like cheap movie props.

    The victims of the worst engineering disaster in US history have a right to fair compensation for their losses.

    Come on people, face it there is only one group to blame… the french. They are the ones that initially built New Orleans along side of the mighty mississippe and below sea level.

    Sooner or later you were going to have a disaster like Kitrina and it will happen again…

    State Farm should have build better levees in this area; they should be held responsible, as should the weathercaster guys, who said it was going to be bad, but good golly, they didn\’t tell me it would be this bad. In short, we should file suit against:
    mayor Nagin
    Gov Blanco
    President Bush
    UN Sec Kofi Anan
    John Kerry, who had he won would have prevented this from happening…
    AlGore, who had he won would have stopped global warning about global warming because he would have stopped it in it\’s tracks;
    State Farm;
    Wal-Mart, just because the unions don\’t like them;
    Barry Bonds, because allot of people don\’t like him and he has allot of money…;
    FEMA;
    Army Corp of Engineers;
    All Federal Agencies;

    then, and only then, will be be able to fix this mess all these people let occur on their watch.

    The Corps was funded to design the navigation channel and did a poor job, that is O.K.? I guess if you hire an electrician to wire your house and because of a poor job, your house burns down, that is your fault for hiring him!

    RAL,
    To quote Jimmy Buffet, \”It ain\’t that simple\”.
    Bench marks have sunk 7 feet (suprise!)
    Local levee boards misappropriated funds.
    The \”Crescent City\” is a cresent \’cause it was built on the highlands, the lower areas were built on later and that\’s what flooded.
    Our wetlands(and barrier islands)have been sinking since the 1750\’s, and they continue to sink to this day.
    On and on…………

    Hey Ray,

    Would the levees have fallen down without the help of Katrina?

    This is getting to sound like South Florida, Lets have the insurance compainies give us new homes, better than we had, now its let the goverment pay for our new modern homes, better than we had. I am sick of all the bullsh-t. Get on with your lives and put your hands to work, not out. I also read about how the leeves were clog with a bunch old junk puy there by the neighborhood people.

    Until you have walked in their shoes, do not be so critical of these people, you may be in a similar place tomorrow!

    Katrina was an act of God. Buying flood insurance is an act of man. Man act now and buy flood insurance before the next Katrina.

    No one is blaming God, the blame is on MAN, the Corps of Engrs. No amount of flood insurance will help if they keep poorly designing flood protection.
