Wal-Mart will offer service and repairs, but not with union labor, only with their low paid, non union help. It appears Wal-Mart is going to import these cars as it\’s the only thing their employees will be able to afford.
I can\’t speak to affordability, safety, or the sales process, but as far as unionized labor goes in the automotive industry mechanics make more money and customer service numbers are higher in a non-union shop.
Judging by their Tire and Lube pay scale that probably doesn\’t apply to Wal~Mart, but I didn\’t want the whole auto industry tarred with the same brush.

Many times this is done to secure lines of credit at banks, etc. The Corporate Owned Life Insurance (COLI) practice of purchasing a relatively small amount of life insurance on all employees to include rank-in-file has been an acceptable way for large corporations to offset other benefit costs such as health insurance and other benefits. I do not know the specifics on the WM case but several large companies have had these plans in place for over a decade.
