Texas P/C Symposium to Feature Former La. Commissioner

Former Louisiana Insurance Commissioner John Wooley will be the luncheon speaker at the 14th annual Mid-Year Property & Casualty Insurance Symposium in Austin, Texas, on July 13. Wooley served as commissioner during Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

The symposium is jointly sponsored by the Insurance Council of Texas and the Association of Fire and Casualty Companies in Texas or AFACT. It will be held at the Austin Marriott at the Capitol.

Other featured speakers include Dr. Adrian Lund, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Dr. Lund will discuss highway safety issues and recent IIHS tests aimed at preventing automobile accident injuries and saving lives.

Dr. Robert Hartwig, chief economist for the Insurance Information Institute, will report on the financial performance of the Texas and national insurance industry and the economic issues related to the current hurricane season.

Austin attorney, Jay Thompson will discuss the Texas marketplace and forecast what legal “storm clouds” may be in the future for the Texas property and casualty insurance industry.

Texas Insurance Commissioner Mike Geeslin will participate in a round table discussion moderated by ICT executive director Rick Gentry in the symposium’s afternoon event. Geeslin and Gentry will be joined by State Representative Larry Taylor and insurance representatives in a wide ranging discussion.
