First we read about the pastor in Indiana who stole $250,000 intended for her granddaughter (the daughter of a serviceman who lost his life in an accident) and now we have a pastor paying to burn down his church.

What has become of the old time pastor who was honest and a credit for their church?

Many still exist, they just don\’t get the pub that the idiots do. Do you ever notice that most of these that get busted are from: \”Church of (insert token religious word here)\”. Although there are some wackos in organized denominations too, they seem to be more plentiful in the independent church arena. Too often, I see these as a power trip for the \”pastor\” to gain as much ego validation as possible…and if there is a lot of tithing going on, it validates the pastor\’s check book pretty well too.

Roger Marcus was (I hope he has changed) nothing more or less than a liar and thief. After hurricane Ivan hit Northwest Florida Roger Marcus called me (I was the Pastor of a Church in Pensacola) and told me he had a team of volunteers that wanted to come to Pensacola and help with the hurricane Ivan damage. Marcus wanted my Church to provide food and lodging for the volunteers and he said his church in Texas would pay all the additional expenses my Church incurred. My Church agreed and Marcus and his “volunteers” moved into our church building. It turned out that Marcus came to Pensacola to install tarps on damaged roofs and that FEMA was paying him. The short story is that Marcus never paid for anything and my Church incurred over $7,000.00 in expenses; in addition Marcus’ “volunteers” cost my Church thousands of dollars in damage to our church building and items they stole. Any Pastor who conducts himself in the manner in which Roger Marcus has should be locked up for life. Marcus either lied about his calling into the ministry or he betrayed God, in either case Marcus took advantage of the people who trusted him and that he was susposed to help. My Church, and I, have forgiven Marcus and we have prayed for him and we continue to pray that he will be of tremendous service to God in the future.
