American National, being based in Galveston, has a high concentration of market share in the Houston area. They\’ll do themselves a lot of good by excluding wind in Galveston county in the future.

I can’t believe it’s legal for Allstate to not renew coverage in certain counties. County lines are political boundaries! I have never had a claim on my home or auto but Allstate isn’t renewing my home policy because I reside in a county adjoining a coastal county. I sure won’t be letting Allstate continue coverage on my autos! Will Allstate receive data indicating autos on the highway are a higher risk so they will only renew your auto policy if you leave your car in the garage most of the week and only drive to church on Sunday? Will Allstate begin offering wind coverage in my county again when hurricane forecasters say we are back in an average weather pattern? Insurance companies have created their own undue liability risks by requiring that we insure our homes for replacement value. Now they don’t want that liability in coastal counties and counties that adjoin coastal counties. They want to garner the highest premium possible so the higher the home’s insured value, the more income they get. Not everyone has to rebuild a new home in the same location, and probably shouldn’t in the case of hurricane prone areas. Why does the insurer not have a choice? I don’t want to pay a huge replacement value premium for something that probably won’t happen if I can pay a lower premium that will allow me to pay off my loan and buy a used home in another location in the event of a total loss. I hope policyholders will recognize we should buy a policy that meets the needs of our location, income, mortgage, and marital status. I also hope Allstate policyholders will think about this move by Allstate and ask, why are we in good hands with Allstate?

As a practicing attorney for more than 30 years, I can tell you that this company will try to cheat you in EACH and EVERY way possible if and when you have ANY claim. Without exception! From weasel-worded “definitions” to suddenly imposed and unagreed “mandatory deductibles”, they are out SOLELY to take from YOU and enrich THEMSELVES. I’d strongly advise purchasing your insurance from another company.
