What\’s the plan-pay attention to warnings this time and use the buses instead of leaving them to be destroyed? But then who\’ll blame George Bush and the federal government?

Let\’s all get on that band wagon – LOL
As if! New Orleans residents need to be aware of approaching storms, so I say put the Weather Channel in every household & then take advantage of the local 8 on the 8\’s & print in really big letters GET OUT NOW THERE IS A HURRICANE COMING! LOL
Maybe that will help, but please GO NORTH, EAST IS THE WAY IT\’LL HEAD AFTER LANDFALL & WEST IS FULL TO CAPACITY OF THOSE STILL HERE!

God Bless & Good Luck this Hurrican Season!

I grew up in New Orleans and lived there for over 40 years. It\’s easy to make negative remarks about things you don\’t experience first-hand. This very unusual storm came in faster than any I have ever experienced. The entire city had basically 24 hours to get out of town. 85 to 88% of this city of 400,000 did evacuate. Many chose not to ( I think foolishly)- we\’ve had many many warnings without any \”hits\”. People were told to go to the Superdome only as a shelter of last resort. Mayor Ngain warned repeatedly that there would be no food or water available there. He also told people that if they were going to stay, to keep an ax to be able to cut through their attic in case of flooding, and to have a flare so that they could be found. He used every tactic to get people to leave in the short amount of warning time available. Again, some people could not leave, but many of those who stayed chose to. And after the flooding started, why is it that Harry Connick, Jr and the news media, for e.g. could get in to the superdome but no help arrived from the federal level until days later. Why was it that \”Brownie\” was prepping for a TV interview and could not respond to the only FEMA person on the scene immediately after the storm? Why was Amtrack paralyzed? People died. I cannot say that our federal government responded appropriately. Please go & visit New Orleans. It was a beautiful city – 12 years short of being 300 years old. Many parts are still intact. Many landmarks, homes, neighborhoods, ancient trees, are gone – irreplaceable. If you view the destruction 1st hand perhaps your comments won\’t be so destructive and insensitive.
