State and federal officials announced a wildfire Mitigation Outreach Partnership with Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores, 530 South George Nigh Expressway in McAlester, Oklahoma beginning Feb. 23.

Specialists will provide information about wildfire mitigation to assist people who experienced damages as well as others interested in taking preventive actions to avoid fire damage. The outreach is sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM).

Mitigation specialists are on hand at the store from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until further notice for interested individuals and business owners. These specialists can explain mitigation techniques that lessen and even prevent damages to homes, businesses and property from future wildfires. Handouts will be available that explain actions homeowners can take to avoid future wildfire damage. Teams will also supply information on how to get help with other disaster-related questions.

The public is encouraged to drop by and pick up informative materials and speak with mitigation representatives about ways to secure their homes and businesses against wildfires.

The forum is also open to anyone in the surrounding Oklahoma counties.
