Litigation Management Software Program on Display at 2005 ALFA Seminar in Dallas

November 7, 2005

Scott Mager, founder and chief attorney of the 90-person Mager Law Group (MLG), a defense law firm specializing in complex litigation and appeals, will introduce a litigation software program at the upcoming 2005 ALFA Health Care Practice Group Seminar on Nov. 9-11, at the Wyndham Anatole in Dallas, Texas. This year’s conference will focus on strategies aimed at improving the financial crisis faced by the U.S. health care system.

Among the panel of guest speakers, Mager will focus his discussion on how insurance companies can enhance the chances for a defense verdict or better leveraged settlement – and certainly reduce attorney fees – by employing Report One Way (ROW). ROW is a patent-pending internet-based software program that encourages consistent reporting and shared defense strategies, while providing clients with instant “real time” access into the progression of a case.

“From my discussions with hundreds of claims personnel, general counsel and law firm partners, they struggle with ensuring consistent reporting to clients, claims personnel, corporate counsel and risk management. They were also reluctant to share information amongst defense counsel, for fear of giving away their ‘secret’ or losing a client to another firm that utilizes the ‘secret’ to win a case,” explained Mager. “On the other hand, plaintiffs have been and continue to share information, essentially ‘ganging up’ on defense counsel (and defendants). ROW changes that paradigm, allowing for a consistent reporting mechanism, shared strategies, and improved ‘real time’ case management.”

Mager Law Group created the ROW program for health care providers, insurance companies, insurance defense firms and other corporations to help better manage the litigation process.

The ROW program allows users to initialize a case at the encrypted site, which immediately notifies the attorney or law firm by email. ROW then starts an easy-to-follow detailed task list with preset deadlines as set by the client automatically inserted. The system provides any number of automatic email reminders, built-in spreadsheets and custom reports, all of which can be automatically emailed to any person with a specified frequency.

In the event that a task is not completed by the preset deadline, a reminder email notification is automatically sent to both the attorney and client. The program can be customized to provide any number of reminders at any time, and allows for tracking features in that regard.

For litigation matters, the ROW program also has a detailed expert witness database, with thousands of depositions, all arranged by specialty and state, including specific information not provided by any other database. Additionally, ROW has a “westlaw-style” searchable database of the entire country’s case law, medical definitions, the Web sites of every court in the country, and training videos for attorneys, claims personnel and clients, among many other features.

Sponsored by ALFA International, the conference will take an in-depth look at three significant issues in health care: alternatives to traditional insurance, solutions to pharmacy issues and long-term care.

ALFA International is a global network of law firms comprised of 85 U.S. and 35 foreign firms with approximately 9,000 lawyers and 10,000 support personnel. ALFA’s goal is to educate its members and their clients on the issues and problems facing specific businesses and industries.
