Texas DWC Workplace Safety Seminars Set for October

The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation announced it will present two one-day educational seminars on Safety Inspection and Accident Investigation in October in Fort Worth and Houston.

The Fort Worth seminar is scheduled to take place on Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Airlines Conference Center, Mercury Room – M106, 4501 Hwy 360 South, Fort Worth. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $99 per person.

The Houston seminar will be held Oct. 19, 2005 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Embassy Suites, Embassy Room 2, 9090 SW Freeway, Houston. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $99 per person.

Hazard recognition, prevention, and control are key elements of any good safety program. This course provides an overview of the safety inspection process and participants will learn how to evaluate their safety program, identifying current, as well as potential problems, and use the results to focus company resources on promoting safety.

An effective accident investigation is a systematic process of recording what happened, who was involved, the resulting injuries, and concludes with determining the causes and eliminating them. This program provides employers and employees the tools necessary to work together to conduct accident investigations.

This seminar will provide information on the following topics:

–What are inspections;
–Why perform inspections;
–What are the various types of inspections;
–How to build an effective inspection program;
–How to choose effective inspectors;
–How to perform an inspection;
–Why accidents occur and the role of the investigator;
–What are employer responsibilities related to workplace accident investigations;
–How to conduct an investigation; and
–How to complete an investigation report.
