Expect rioting in the Astrodome. If you are lucky, all of the dregs of society are still in NO shooting at cops.

The only differences in the Astrodome and the Superdome are working bathrooms and air-conditioning; otherwise, the Astrodome has been unused for several years and is not set up to house tens of thousands of people for months. I am concerned about developing problems and interactions between evacuees living under conditions of minimal privacy for so long. These guests must leave their guns and weapons, rowdiness and any bad attitudes and disrespect for others wherever they came from. We will do everything possible to help the deserving. We already have been.

Some of my relatives are very poor and if they lived in New Orleans, no doubt they would have sought refuge in the Superdome.
Why do you vilify people who are stuck in
deplorable conditions, amidst an unbelievable lack of sanitary conditions, food and medical attention awaiting help?

If you will re-read what I said, I was talking about people who were shooting at rescuers and looting. These “citizens” deserve the vilification.

I checked out the situation at the Astrodome last night and came to the conclusion that a number of “authorities” have been planning and administrating (whatever that is), but actually getting aid to the victims has been a virtual failure. Locally, volunteers were turned away yesterday at the Astrocome, local citizens bringing food there was rejected, there seemed to be no chain of command structure, no one knew “anything,” there is little use of local media to rally support from local citizens, businesses or suppliers. Houston could make a tremendous response to these refugees, but there’s no effective leadership with structure here…or nationally either, it appears. So far, the refugees in Houston have been respectful, patient, resigned and helpless in their needs. Planners have completely underestimated and underplanned for their response to this situation. The Houston Red Cross boasted 20+ Million Dollars pledged locally, yet they ran out of food, water, clothing, towels and other essentials yesterday. They learned you cannot put cots in the bleachers, only on the Dome floor, and that would not be for 25,000 people. So they stopped taking people in. Why haven’t the Red Cross or the Houston City government organized churches, civic associations, clubs, schools, professional groups, etc. to collect clothing, food and other supplies to stage receipt of these items, then promptly distribute them to the Dome and other shelters? This is a crisis. Use the media for communications.
