Ark. Woman Gets 15 Years in Conspiracy to Kill Ex-Husband in Insurance Scheme

A Texarkana, Ark., woman was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a plot that involved her 18-year-old son and one of his young friends traveling to Houston to kill her ex-husband. The man was not harmed.

The Associated Press reported that Margaret “Suzy” Marie Boone, 41, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit capital murder. Prosecutors said she conspired with her son, Brentley Pate Boone, to kill Richard Boone to obtain insurance benefits.

Brentley Boone pleaded guilty May 10 and was sentenced to 10 years of probation. Circuit Judge Jim Hudson sentenced Margaret Boone to 15 years. Richard Boone agreed with the pair’s plea bargains, according to lawyers in the case.

Prosecutors say attempts might be made to revoke Brentley Boone’s probation after the boy allegedly tried to sell an assault rifle in the parking lot of a grocery store. Witnesses called police, who arrested him.

Last year, police said Brentley Boone, then 18, and a 16-year-old friend traveled to Houston to kill Richard Boone.

Police said Margaret Boone worked at an insurance agency during the time she and the boys hatched the plot.

“The motivation for the murder was money and detectives found suspect life insurance documents in the name of Richard Boone,” police said in a statement released last year. When the boys got to Houston, they visited Richard Boone but did not harm him, then returned to Texarkana.

Police said they learned of the plan after a falling-out among the conspirators.
