Pan-American Life Names Salazar Executive VP

New Orleans-based Pan-American Life Insurance Company announced the appointment of Camilo J. Salazar as executive vice president for Distribution, Marketing and Product Management. Salazar’s appointment is effective July 18, 2005.

“During an insurance career of more than 30 years, Camilo Salazar has consistently demonstrated a combination of leadership, vision and practical business acumen,” said José Suquet, president and CEO of Pan-American Life. “Camilo is a specialist in understanding the dynamics of international life insurance markets, and his experience is broad, ranging from actuarial analysis to new product development and distribution, as well as mergers and acquisitions. We are fortunate to have an executive of his caliber join our team at Pan-American.”

Salazar has more than 30 years of management and actuarial experience in Latin America, Europe, the Far East and the Caribbean. Previously, he has worked as a principal, responsible for Latin America, with Milliman Inc. and with The Principal Financial Group, where he was responsible for developing and managing the company’s expansion in Latin America and Europe. He also worked as chief actuary for a subsidiary of American International Group with responsibilities for operations in the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal and other European countries. His experience also includes a position as comptroller and actuary with Travelers Overseas, a Travelers subsidiary with operations in the Far East, the Caribbean and Latin America.

During his career, he has participated in the appraisal and due diligence of insurance companies during mergers and acquisitions and also negotiated joint ventures and new business opportunities in Latin America and Europe. He has conducted strategic and financial analysis of bank assurance operations, and has proven expertise in developing and pricing new products and managing new operating companies and divisions.
