Due to a reported large response from the safety, health and environmental community for comments during the public review phase for the proposed Z15.1 Standard for Motor Vehicle Operations, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has added an extra session at its June Professional Development Conference (PDC) in New Orleans addressing the standard.
Bill Hinderks, a nationally respected safety professional with experience in the transportation industry and vice-chair of the ANSI Accredited Z15 Committee, will speak at the PDC on June 15 from 3:15 to 4:15.
ASSE is the Secretariat for the Z15.1 standard, chaired by ASSE member Carmen Daecher. This standard sets forth practices for the safe operation of motor vehicles owned or operated by organizations including: nomenclature and definition management of motor vehicle safety programs; driver recruitment, assessment, and selection; vehicle inspection and maintenance; occupant protection; distracted, aggressive, and impaired driving; and, incident review and data analysis.
These guidelines are designed for use by those having the responsibility for the administration and operation of motor vehicles as a part of organizational operations. Data and ASSE member response reportedly show that motor vehicle operations represent significant safety, health and environmental hazards and exposures.
