To avoid E&O exposure, agents should always offer a flood policy, even if the property is not located in a Special Flood Hazard Area (100 year flood plain – A & V zones). The National Flood Insurance Program offers a Preferred Risk Policy for and insured that lives in a low risk zone (500 year flood plain – B, C, and X zones). Flood is a necessary policy in Tier 1 and any growing metro area. Expanding construction alters drainage and the additional concrete allows for less absorption of rain water. To find out more about how you can market flood more effectively and protect your E&O, contact me, Justin Gilmore. I am a Flood Sales Consultant for American Reliable and American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida. I live in the Houston area and would be willing to talk to agents who are interested in flood. Please call 800-423-4403 ext.363 or e-mail justin.gilmore@assurant.com.

THAT’S WHY ANY P&C AGENT WORTH HIS (OR HER) SALT ALWAYS ASKS THE INSURED ABOUT GETTING A SEPARTE FLOOD POLICY QUOTE. JUST ASK THE AGENTS IN FLORIDA WHO ARE BEING SUED OVER THIS. I ALWAYS HAVE MY CLIENT SIGN A FORM STATNG THAT THEY DECLINED THE FLOOD INS POLICY, THAT I KEEP IN THEIR FILE JACKET, IF THE INSURED DOESN’T WANT TO BUY ANY FLOOD INSURANCE. WE DO IT ON PIP COVERAGE, WHY NOT FLOOD??
