TWCC to Host Statewide Safety and Health Conference

The Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission announced it will host its 9th Annual Safety and Health Conference, the Texas Safety Summit, on May 11 and 12 in Austin at the Omni Austin Hotel Southpark, 4140 Governors Row.

The Texas Safety Summit is a learning opportunity for all segments of the Texas workforce and is open to all employers, whether or not they subscribe to workers’ compensation insurance. The registration fee for the conference is $250 per person by April 18, and $275 per person on or after April 19. Discounted rates are available for groups or employers that register five or more participants.

The conference will present over 20 breakout sessions selected by industry peers and designed to address pertinent issues facing Texas employers.

Topics include: Aging and the Workforce; Preventing Hand Injuries; Wellness and Health in the Workplace; Work Zone Traffic Control; Workplace Security; Hispanic Workforce Issues; Reaping the Benefits of Return to Work Efforts; First Aid; Office Safety; Safety Around Mobile Equipment; Process Safety Management; Conducting Effective Safety Meetings; Life Safety Code; Work Zone Traffic Control; Construction Safety Primer; U.S. Department of Transportation Drug Screening; and Landscape & Grounds Personnel Safety.

General Sessions include: The STEPS Story – The Art of Creating a Safety Alliance; How an AED Could Save Your Life; Non-Violent Conflict and Dispute Resolution; and an overview of Legislation Affecting the Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission.

Continuing education credits will be provided by Texas State Technical College. Attendees will be eligible to receive .1 hours CEU per hour of attendance.
