“IEM President and CEO Madhu Beriwal is the recipient of a special merit award from the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association ( LEPA ) for her work in New Orleans hurricane emergency preparedness.”

I feel sorry for New Orleans, LEPA and Madhu. I wonder what fell through. We should learn from this incident.

    Let’s try that again:

The date on the story is June 9th, 2004. WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?! Was a plan ever developed? If so, what was it, and where do we find a copy? If it was finished, was it followed?

Just what went on here? This story cries out for followup.

You can get some idea of IEM’s thinking by reading the 2003 (R) Gov Pataki, NY Power Authority’s “Review of Emergency Preparedness of Areas Adjacent to Indian Point and Millstone” / the Lee Witt report.

    Or reading:

Homeland Protection Professional September 2003 By David Wagman, Contributing Editor

The plan calls for people to stay at home and be :) since the roads will be too crowded anyway. As she says “a lot
of good can come just by letting people
    be people.”

Her main emphasis is that we should not be too worried about dangers, especially from nuclear power and chemical plants.

Education and studies are the key. Implied is that (PR?) firms like her’s are selling it.

Examples can be googled all over the place ie PEPCO in Md. Kind of gets to the essence of the corruption hidden by the polite word privitization.

I agree with you…where’s the plan…can anyone find it or the money they got for developing the plan?
