A Baton Rouge, La. insurance agent (producer) was arrested, had his insurance license suspended and was ordered to cease and desist from doing any insurance business for allegedly misappropriating insurance funds, according to Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley
Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigators served John Tyrone Turner, 45, with a Cease and Desist Order and Summary Suspension of his insurance license at the time he was arrested by members of the Baton Rouge Police Department and charged with felony theft.
The Department of Insurance Cease and Desist Order states that Turner reportedly misappropriated insurance premiums of more than $5500 from 38 different Louisiana citizens who thought they were paying for insurance protection. It further states that he is prohibited from engaging in any activity relating to the business of insurance, effective immediately. In addition, he is subject to fines and other penalties for the activities outlined in the order.
Department of Insurance records reportedly show that Turner has held a life and health license since Aug. 11, 1994, until it was suspended Nov. 7, 2003, and that he held a property and casualty license from March 22, 1990 to May 1, 1993. Department addresses for him are: 9776 Greenwell Springs Rd., Baton Rouge, and 9458 Walter Smith Road, New Roads.
Policyholders who have bought policies or conducted other insurance business, such as paying premiums, with John Tyrone Turner should call the insurance company to verify that they have the coverage they paid for.
