When carriers elect to send out “inspection companies” instead of licensed experienced adjusters, it starts to get us old hands to consider retirement and newer guys look for something else to do.
It seems that the only residential claims I have been getting over the past few months are re-inspections behind one or even 2 of these inspectors that didn’t have a clue what they were looking at. By this point, the insured is pretty upset with the process that could have been settled easily by an adjuster that could explain their coverage and covered causes of loss. I get photo reports from these companies that were obviously taken from the top of a ladder and the roof was never fully accessed. Even when they do get on a roof, the lack of training is evident when they miss damage or mis-identify covered and non-covered items. I have trained 100s of adjusters over the years and see signs that there will be a serious lack of talented adjusters available over the next few years.

This is such a catch 22 situation. There is need for more adjusters with experience, adjusters take training, get licensed, get certified but obviously this does not replace experience, no one will hire you if you are not experienced and you can’t get experience unless you’re hired. Experienced adjusters are retiring, and companies need adjusters but companies don’t want to invest a small amount to train the new ones that worked hard to get their licenses and certifications. So, I’d say until this goes bust and there aren’t enough experienced adjusters on file anymore because they’re retired and a really bad weather year rolls around, companies will learn the lesson that it pays to train your contractors a little before you send them out green. It will be a fun time when that perfect blend of more inexperience adjusters are all that’s available and bad storms/weather hit. Good luck insurance and claim companies!
