These bills are going to backfire on dog owners. I predict that overall homeowner’s insurance premium rates are going up even if you don’t own a dog. I predict insurance companies leaving the state of Nevada because of this unreasonable bill.

If it gets really expensive for insurance companies in Nevada and New York, I predict  ‘Canine Liability Exclusion’ will be implemented. There is no law that insurance companies have to cover dog bites under homeowners insurance. Insurance companies will dump all canine coverage under homeowner/rental insurance policy. All dog owners will have to seek separate liability coverage for their dogs.

There is going to be a big shift from the government every year, covering the 1-2 billion dollar dog bites to the insurance companies. Every year, 750,000 Americans need medical attention because of a dog bite, but homeowners and renters insurance pay just 16,000 of them.

These bills just mean higher premiums for everyone or stop covering dog bites under homeowner insurance. Insurance companies are not a charity.

Anyone who claims that Chihuahuas are more feared than pits has zero credibility. That is just beyond silly. Chis, in their entire history, have killed no one. Pit bulls, 4-6% of the population, kill 4+ times more often than all other breeds combined.

Researchers at Penn State had this to day about the “dog racism,” in an article entitled, “Researchers refute widespread racist analogy comparing human races to dog breeds”

“This dog-breed comparison does not hold up to science and to everything we know about what ‘race’ is and is not. What’s worse, the people who are trotting out this bad analogy do not have innocent intentions. They are not objectively curious about the wonders of biology, they are not confused about the sociocultural construction of race, they are interested in justifying racism and convincing others to do the same.”

The paper attacks the analogy by demonstrating the differences in patterns of genetic and biological variation between humans and dogs, contrasting them and explaining how differences between the two are unsurprising given the two species evolved very differently. Dogs are domesticated and different breeds have evolved through highly controlled breeding that has drastically reduced the variation within breeds. The paper goes on to lay out decades of interdisciplinary work beyond genetics and biology that has documented how the phenomenon of “race” in humans is vastly different from any groupings we impose on other animals.

“History tells us how people who use the dog-breed analogy for race are perpetuating racism,” said Dunsworth. “It’s bad science, bad everything. “Race’ as we know it in our daily lives—and as we have known it throughout history—goes well beyond science. Race is socioculturally, politically and historically constructed, but dog breeds are … dogs.”

Do people really say with a straight face, as the State Farm rep did, that vets are more “afraid” of Chihuhuas? Please, get back to me when Chis kill even one person.

I always thought insurance was about statistics and evidence. Falling prey (no pun intended) to social justice claims about racism towards dog breeds is caving to emotion based arguments. Different dog breeds have different sizes, shapes, temperaments, and phenotypes. We have bred them for thousands of years in some cases to behave and look in specific and predictable ways. Thus it is no shock that Border Collies herd, pointers point, greyhounds chase, huskies run, and guarding/fighting breeds fight and guard.

I have zero interest in my insurance rates as a dog owner going up because a lot of people want to lie to themselves and others about the capabilities and propensities of certain breeds.

Racism and dog breeds. That racist thing seems to get weaker by the argument. Dog breeds and racism – ridiculous. Who comes up with this tripe.
Martin Luther King – rolling over in his grave. Shame.

You parroted and quoted the baseless claims of “racism” the activists made, made no effort to find or demand from them one shred of evidence to support their “racism” claim, and you do not bother to make a disclaimer statement about not verifying their baseless claims.

Then you link to a study not just commissioned by, but authored by Animal Farm Foundation itself and you do not bother to make a disclaimer statement that you have not verified the validity of that research.

Later in the article, you do make a disclaimer statement that you did not verify the validity of independent, peer-reviewed research that Colleen Lynn gave you as evidence.

“breed discrimination also reeks of housing discrimination based on race and socio-economic status because of societal generalizations about the types of humans who own blocky-headed dogs…”

Just to be clear, people are concerned about the presence of blocky-headed dogs which, in research you quoted farther down in the article, have been found to be far more dangerous than other kinds of dogs whether their pedigree as a pit bull is known or not.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – New research at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center identifies dog breeds and physical traits that pose the highest risk of biting with severe injury. Doctors want parents of young children to use this information when deciding which dog to own.
The study, published in the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, explores the risks of dog bite injuries to the face in children and bite severity by breed, size and head structure. Researchers found pit bulls and mixed breed dogs with pit bull characteristics have the highest risk of biting and cause the most damage per bite. The same goes for dogs with wide and short heads weighing between 66 and 100 pounds.
“The purpose of this study was to evaluate dog bites in children, and we specifically looked at how breed relates to bite frequency and bite severity,” said Dr. Garth Essig, lead author and otolaryngologist at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center. “Because mixed breed dogs account for a significant portion of dog bites, and we often didn’t know what type of dog was involved in these incidents, we looked at additional factors that may help predict bite tendency when breed is unknown like weight and head shape.”
To assess bite severity, researchers reviewed 15 years of dog-related facial trauma cases from Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the University of Virginia Health System. They looked at wound size, tissue tearing, bone fractures and other injuries severe enough to warrant consultation by a facial trauma and reconstructive surgeon and created a damage severity scale.

What an insult to those who experience actual racism, comparing them to dog breeds. Another quoted in the article is a highly paid attorney/lobbyist who goes into cities and promises them ‘grants’ for their local shelters and rescues. In other words, pay off money. Not to mention this group that the attorney works for is a front for a cultist church that they have never disassociated themselves with. There is a paper trail, and also offshore accounts. There is no doubt that the pit bull was never designed to live in society and it proves that everyday with maulings and deaths.

Let’s be honest here! The people who UTILIZE and TRAIN vicious dogs do so for specific purposes – protection from other criminals and POLICE and INTIMIDATION of others! They are most likely NOT going to have liability insurance either! Insurance is about AVERAGES and FACTS. Libers ignore both and excuse everything as RACISM!!
