This is excellent. Due to the continued increase of weather events and rising repair costs insurance carriers taking on a proactive approach to curtail claims rather than just reactive will not only instill a partnership relationship with customers but also increase their ability to remain competitive. As someone in the industry 30 years I have been preaching this for awhile and am frustrated that more companies haven’t adopted this approach. The same can be said for the health insurance industry.

I received an offer for a free one but I think I will replace my breakers with arc fault ones instead. It is a neat idea and it is great they are being proactive; but:
I wasn’t thrilled with the small print that the sensor would also report back info on what was connected to my wifi (why would they possibly need that?) and that the company would select the electrician and send them without my approval. There are too many that I would not want in my home that they could pick. It was also worded like I couldn’t decide I no longer wanted it and just send it back and be done with it once I received it.

I agree! I really wanted to try this out, as it was free for three years from State Farm. But after some digging (information that should have been prominently displayed), I saw that they will send someone to my home without my knowledge or approval! There are some electricians in my area that I wouldn’t allow in my home. Having that choice taken away from me was a deal breaker. I completely missed the part of what’s connected to my WIFI!

There might be some confusion regarding how the service is provided; they only coordinate an electrician visit if the hazard requires it (many hazards don’t), but they don’t do that unless and until you have approved it; they also allow a homeowner-preferred electrician if you have one.

Glade that State Farm sent me one. It is doing a great job in letting me know about power spikes That led to the discovery of stuck capacitors at the transformer. Now my power is back to the normal range. I recommend getting one if it is available as it is better than a fire.

How much is the service after the three years that State Farm provides?

That I’ve read Susan it is $50 a year. Based on going to the Ting website to buy one outside of the insurance company.

I was reading on one board that the info also gets copied back to China… Not actually sure if that’s true (didn’t confirm Ting was Chinese either) but also something to consider.
