Claims People: Nexus Specialty, ProSight and MedRisk

Nexus Specialty Hires U.S. Claims Head

Nexus Specialty Inc. has hiredMike Fried to lead its new in-house U.S. claims team. The company is a division of Nexus Group, a London-based managing general agent.

Fried’s appointment follows the launch of a new Financial Lines division in the U.S., providing management and professional liability products supported by Professional Solutions Insurance Company (PSIC) and the admitted trade credit product launched earlier this year supported by Crum & Forster (C&F). The company said previously that the underwriting and claims functions for the new division will be operated from an office in the Chicago area.

The new U.S. claims offering follows Nexus Group’s virtual insurer model and compliments established claims offerings in the United Kingdom and Europe, the company said in a press release.

“The hiring of someone as well respected and experienced as Mike shows our ongoing commitment to secure talent for our ambitious business, which continues to expand in the US specialty insurance market,” stated Adam Kembrooke, chief executive officer and president of Nexus Group US.

Prior to joining Nexus, Fried was most recently managing director and chief claims officer of LVL Claims Services, a New York City-based third-party administrator for management and professional liability claims. Previously he managed high value complex claims at both Chubb and AIG during his nearly 40-year claims career, Nexus Group said.

MedRisk President to lead Kids’ Chance

Ken Martino, president of physical medicine provider MedRisk in King of Prussia, Pa., has been appointed as 2020-2021 president of Kid’s Chance of America, a charity that provides scholarships for the children of workers who were seriously or fatally injured on the job.

Martino has served on the Kid’s Chance board for 10 years and recently chaired its finance and grant committees.

The charity said traditional fund raising mechanisms, such as golf tournaments and bowl-a-thons will not be feasible for a while. Martino says that technology will play a larger role in fundraising and idea sharing among the chapters, the organization said. He cites the national organization’s decision to take its April annual meeting virtual as an example.

Officers serving with Martino are Kevin Turner of Paradigm Catastrophic Care Management, Kevin Confetti with the University of California, Suzanne Emmet of Eastern Alliance Insurance Group, John Goldwater with W.R. Berkley Corporation, and WorkersCompensation.com’s Bob Wilson.

ProSight Appoints Claims Chief

ProSight Specialty Insurance announced the appointment Donna Biondich as chief claims officer, along with two other executive appointments.

Prior to joining ProSight, Biondich was with Colony Specialty-Argo Group as a senior vice president of claims. Most recently, she was the director of general liability and professional liability claims operations at North American Risk Services, the company said in a press release.

Biondich is a graduate of Shippensburg University. She reports to chief legal officer Frank Papalia.

ProSight also appointed Nico Santini as chief investment officer and Jeff Arrival as chief of staff and head of capital markets.
