As a file examiner, I see young adjusters files on a daily basis. These “adjusters”are totally unprepared to properly adjust losses – due to their inexperience. Additionally, I find new adjusters unwilling to take suggestions to prepare better files…and to take the time necessary to inspect thoroughly. It appears they are using the “spaghetti test”…throw it and see if it sticks. In my opinion, they will not likely be invited back for another storm assignment. At this point, they are a “warm” body to hold claims until an experience adjuster can properly handle the claim.
Perhaps the bigger insurance companies will now see the folly of their ways when they reorganized to push out all of the experienced adjusters, replacing us with people who had no idea how to handle claims. I know it saved them lots of money, since we made higher salaries, better retirement plans, etc. But they left entire units unstaffed, to be routinely filled with independents, and now they have no one to hire. The younger people they are hiring do not care about the companies, or have the same work ethics as those of us who had been there 20+ years. But I guess they saved a bit of money on business expenses, giving up customer service, quality claims handling, and costing them a fortune in indemnity payments.
