Under these new laws for a conviction of a first offense DUI charge now in nearly every state, a person will have to get the Ignition Interlock installed in order to get their license back.

That is generally not true for first offenders in most states. In most states, after failing or refusing a breath test, the driver is suspended for a period of time, again it varies by state. A suspension ends when the time is up. During the suspension, the person cannot drive without an interlock. But they don’t have to get the interlock during the suspension if they don’t want to drive.
